About Us
The global shortage of health care professionals, greater complexity in medical diagnosis and management, and increasing community expectation of good health outcomes has made medical education one of the core academic disciplines. As part of one of the world's leading universities and medical schools, The Medical Education Unit (MEU) aims to provide educational programs and consultancies that shape the ideal doctor for the 21st century.
The MEU builds on a platform of innovation and educational leadership to focus on five main areas of activity:
- Curriculum development & support;
- Professional development in medical education;
- Educational Research;
- Assessment;
- Program evaluation;
- Curriculum Consultancy
Since its inception in 1997, the MEU has guided the introduction of the University of Melbourne's innovative medical curriculum while continually revising and refreshing it to keep it at the forefront of medical courses internationally. While strongly problem-based and student centred, the curriculum also captures the teaching expertise of the university's world-leading academics. A depth of preclinical understanding is matched with robust clinical competence to produce a medical graduate who is prepared for a lifetime of scholarship.
