MD Course Development
The new generation MD is a product of the University of Melbourne's Growing Esteem and Melbourne Model strategic plans. The University of Melbourne MD will build on the prior bioscience knowledge of students to produce outstanding graduates with advanced clinical skills, an understanding of research and its application to health care and an international focus. The graduates will be awarded a professional doctorate at a Masters level and will be distinguishable by their strong relationships with their patients and their personal and professional selves. The new MD will be the product of an extensive reflection and revision process which will acknowledge the changing health care environment. The curriculum development process will apply the most recent literature on medical education, our knowledge and learning about our current course and the input of a wide variety of stakeholders to build the new MD. This process will prospectively acknowledge the importance of aligned assessment and evaluation in the new course, and the appropriate distribution of funds to support them. The strengths of the current integrated PBL MBBS curriculum will be retained where appropriate.
