The Melbourne Model
Melbourne Model Medicine
As the University moves to the Melbourne Model, the current undergraduate medical degree (the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medical Science) and the current postgraduate degree (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) will be phased out to be replaced by a new postgraduate degree (Doctor of Medicine or MD), which will begin in 2011 (subject to approval).
The new course will be four years in duration and will consist of one year on-campus study in the biosciences and three years in clinical schools. Opportunities will exist for medical science research to be conducted as a required component of the degree.
More information about studying medicine under The Melbourne Model may be obtained from the Melbourne Medical School.

The governance structure for the development of the new MD course has recently been developed, and curriculum planning is currently underway.
