Towards Improved Healthcare Communication: Development and Validation of Language Proficiency Standards for Non-native English Speaking Health Professionals

Collaboration between applied linguistics and health educators to explore appropriate criteria for judging the health communication skills of overseas-trained doctors, nurses and physiotherapists  is the focus of this three year ARC Linkage project. Associate Professor Catherine Elder from the School of Applied Linguistics and Languages leads a team from the Medical Education Unit, Schools of Nursing and Physiotherapy. The Linkage Partner is the Occupational English Test Centre.
