Research Strategy Workshop
With the development of the Melbourne MD the MEU is again configured to lead the development process and associated accreditation and approval processes. The MEU has developed a strong track record in curriculum development, quality control (including assessment and evaluation) and teaching coordination and delivery. The implementation of the Melbourne MD will be a platform examining a new approach to teacher development but medical education research will require a specific strategy. This research strategy workshop was designed to consider how the MEU may develop a higher research profile.
Workshop participants were provided with a selection of prereading materials one week prior to the workshop.
Participants consisted primarily of university academic staff.
The workshop began with an introduction by Professor Geoff McColl (Medical Education Unit) followed by a presentation on a programmatic approach to medical education research by Professor David Prideaux (Flinders University). Participants then broke into groups to discuss options for potential medical education research programs and methodologies for the MEU and its partners.
The afternoon session included presentations from experts to inform the workshop of the optimal enablers of research including grantsmanship, publication, presentation and collaboration. Workshop participants again broke into groups to develop a specific plan to advance the development of the program.
A summary report of the workshop is now available.
